Terms of Service
Effective Date: July 9, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and Karomi Studio LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), the developer of Dotted (the “App” or “Service”). They govern your access to and use of the Dotted iOS application and the backend services that run it.
By creating an account, downloading, or using Dotted, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Dotted. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may only use the Service with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf. Dotted is not directed to children under 13; if we learn a user is under 13, we will delete their account and associated data. You may not use the Service if applicable law prohibits you from doing so.
2. About the Service
Dotted is a household coordination app that helps roommates, families, and housemates manage shared living.
Accounts
You create an account using Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In, or email and password, and set up a profile with your name and avatar color.
Households
You can create a household or join one using an invite code. One member serves as admin, with the ability to approve join requests, remove members, manage settings, and transfer ownership.
Rules and Governance
Members can draft shared rules and agreements (such as quiet hours or guest policies). In households with multiple members, rule changes go through a proposal-and-vote process, and members formally accept the rules before participating.
Chores
Members create chores that rotate among assigned members on a schedule. Members can complete chores, pass them to the next person (with a reason), pick up available chores, or vote to bump a chore off its current assignee. In multi-member households, creating or editing shared chores may require approval through a proposal process.
Bills, Expenses, and Settling Up
Members create bills with names, amounts, categories, due dates, and recurrence settings, and split them equally or with custom amounts. The App tracks balances between household members. To settle up, you may add payment handles (such as a Venmo username or Cash App $Cashtag) that other members can use to pay you, and the App can open your chosen payment app. Dotted does not process, hold, or transfer money. All payments happen directly between you and other members through third-party payment apps, subject to those apps’ own terms.
Receipt Scanning
You can scan physical receipts with the device camera. The App extracts merchant name, amounts, and line items using on-device processing, then pre-fills a bill form with the results.
Activity, Standings, Planner, and Notifications
Significant household actions are logged in a chronological activity feed visible to all members. The App calculates reliability scores from chore completion patterns, shows a calendar of upcoming due dates, and sends alerts for assignments, reminders, and proposals needing your vote. You can manage notification preferences in the App and your device settings.
Quiet Hours and Live Activities
When household rules include quiet hours, you can see a Live Activity on your lock screen showing when quiet hours end.
Important Limitations
Dotted is a coordination and communication tool. It is not legal advice or a substitute for a lease or roommate agreement; not a property management or landlord-tenant service; not a financial service, payment processor, or money transfer service; and not an emergency or safety service. We do not guarantee that household members will follow rules, complete chores, pay bills, or behave in any particular way, and we are not responsible for disputes between household members. Household governance decisions are made by users, not by us.
3. Pricing
Dotted is currently free to use, and all features are available to every user at no charge. If we introduce paid features or a subscription in the future, we will update these Terms, describe the applicable pricing and billing terms in the App before you are charged, and provide notice as required by the Apple App Store and applicable law.
4. Your Account
You agree to provide accurate information and keep it current. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for all activity under your account. When you create a household, Dotted generates an invite code — share it only with people you intend to invite, as anyone with a valid code can request to join. You may not impersonate anyone, create accounts for others, or attempt to access other users’ accounts.
5. Households and Shared Spaces
Shared visibility. Information you submit within a household — your name, avatar, payment handles, chore actions, bill contributions, rule votes, activity history, standings, pass reasons, and notes — is visible to every member of that household. There are no privacy tiers within a home.
Governance. Household decisions (rules, proposals, votes) are made collectively by members. We do not participate in, mediate, or enforce household governance, and we are not a party to any agreement between household members.
Disputes. We are not liable for disputes, damages, or claims arising from household arrangements. Dotted provides the platform; users provide the judgment.
6. User Content
“User Content” means anything you create, submit, or share through the Service — profile information, household names, rules text, chore details, bill information, receipt data, notes, pass reasons, votes, and suggestions.
Ownership. You retain ownership of your User Content.
License you grant us. By submitting User Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, display, and transmit your User Content solely as needed to operate, maintain, and improve the Service. This license continues until you delete your content or account, except for content shared with other household members (such as activity feed entries), which may persist in anonymized or de-identified form.
Your responsibilities. You represent that you have the right to submit your User Content and that it does not violate any law or infringe anyone’s rights.
Reporting and blocking. If you encounter content or behavior within a household that is offensive, abusive, or violates these Terms, report it by contacting support@karomistudio.com. We review all reports and may remove content, issue warnings, or suspend accounts. You can leave a household at any time, and admins can remove members. We reserve the right (but are not obligated) to review User Content and take action to maintain a safe environment.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation.
- Harass, threaten, abuse, stalk, intimidate, or exploit any person.
- Submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, discriminatory, obscene, or sexually explicit.
- Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Interfere with other users’ use of the Service or governance.
- Upload malware, viruses, or harmful code.
- Use bots, scrapers, or other automated tools to access the Service.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, except where permitted by law.
- Manipulate standings, scoring, or voting (for example, with fake accounts or sham votes).
- Use receipt scanning to process content that is not a receipt.
8. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and share your information. We may send you service-related notifications (such as chore reminders and bill alerts); these are not marketing messages, and you can manage preferences in the App and your device settings.
9. Device Permissions
| Permission | Feature | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | Chore, bill, and household alerts | Requested in-app; manageable via device settings |
| Camera | Receipt scanning | Capture receipt images for on-device processing |
| Photos | Receipt scanning | Select receipt images from your photo library |
You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time through your device settings. Revoking a permission may make the associated feature unavailable.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service — including its design, code, features, branding, and the “Dotted” name and logo — is owned by or licensed to us and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to download and use the App on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial household coordination purposes, subject to these Terms. Nothing here grants you any right to use our trademarks or brand elements.
11. Apple App Store Terms
These Terms are between you and Karomi Studio LLC, not Apple Inc. (“Apple”). Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. The following apply to your use of the App obtained through the App Store:
- License scope. Your license is limited to a non-transferable license to use the App on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the App Store usage rules.
- Maintenance and support. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no such obligation.
- Warranty. We, not Apple, are responsible for any product warranties. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing claims relating to the App, including product liability, legal or regulatory conformity, and consumer protection claims.
- Intellectual property. If a third party claims the App infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of the claim.
- Export compliance. You represent that you are not located in an embargoed country or on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
- Developer contact. Questions or complaints about the App should be directed to us using the contact information in Section 23.
12. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including:
- Supabase — database, authentication, real-time data, and server-side functions.
- PostHog — aggregated usage analytics to improve the App.
- Apple — authentication (Sign in with Apple) and notification delivery.
- Google — authentication (Google Sign-In).
These services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices or availability of third-party services, including any payment apps you use to settle up with household members.
13. Feedback
If you provide suggestions, ideas, or feedback about the Service, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use, modify, and incorporate that feedback for any purpose without obligation to you.
14. Account Deletion and Household Exit
You can sign out at any time and leave any household you belong to from within the App. If you are the sole member of a household, you can delete it; if other members remain, you must remove them or transfer ownership first.
You can permanently delete your account from within the App (Settings > Edit Profile). When you delete your account, your profile, household memberships, rule acceptances, and join requests are deleted, your user ID is removed from chore rotation orders, and your authentication record is permanently deleted. Shared household records (activity feed entries referencing your past actions) may be retained for remaining members but will no longer be linked to an active account. If you are the sole admin of a household with other members, you must transfer ownership or remove them first.
Once your account is deleted, it cannot be recovered.
15. Service Availability and Changes
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any feature) at any time, with or without notice. We are not obligated to maintain any particular feature set or backward compatibility, and we may require you to update to a newer version of the App to continue using the Service.
16. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND RELIABILITY. Without limiting the above, we do not warrant that the Service will be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free; that chore records, bill calculations, standings, or scores will be accurate; that receipt scanning results will be accurate or complete; that notifications will be delivered on time or at all; or that household members will comply with rules, complete chores, or pay bills.
17. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AFFILIATES, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. This includes disputes between household members, actions or omissions of household members (including failure to complete chores or pay bills), decisions made based on chore or bill data or standings, inaccuracies in receipt scanning, and loss of data due to account deletion or service changes. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED FIFTY US DOLLARS ($50.00). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, in which case our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
18. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Karomi Studio LLC and its officers, directors, employees, agents, affiliates, and service providers from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your User Content, your violation of these Terms or any law, your violation of any third party’s rights, or disputes between you and other household members.
19. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time if you violate these Terms, your conduct poses harm to others or the Service, we are required to by law, or we discontinue the Service. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive — including Sections 6 (User Content license), 13 (Feedback), 16 (Disclaimers), 17 (Limitation of Liability), 18 (Indemnification), 20 (Governing Law), and 22 (Miscellaneous) — will survive.
20. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any legal action or proceeding arising under these Terms will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Nothing in this section limits any rights you may have under the consumer protection laws of your jurisdiction of residence.
21. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective Date” above. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice, such as an in-app notification or a prominent notice on our website. Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service.
22. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
- Waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign your rights under these Terms; we may assign ours without restriction.
- Notices. We may provide notices through the App, by email, or by other reasonable means.
